Camelot Unchained is a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) based in a fantasy world that is somewhat inspired by the legend of King Arthur, mixed with a post-apocalyptic setting. The game is spiritually similar to game designer Mark Jacobs' previous game, Dark Age of Camelot.
Combat
Unlike many fantasy MMORPGs that tend to focus on so-called PvE combat (where players take on AI units), Camelot Unchained will almost entirely focus on PvP engagements (player vs. player). These PvP engagements will consist of large scale engagements and battles.
The developers aim to achieve an absolute minimum of 30 FPS throughout the game, including during these large-scale skirmishes which will allow up to 500 people to take part at once.
PvP in Camelot Unchained takes place in 'Realms'. There are three distinct realms:
- Arthurians
- Tuatha Dé Danann
- Vikings
Each realm will feature distinct races and abilities.
Character Customization
Camelot Unchained will feature extensive character customization, including the ability for every player to have uniquely crafted items.
All character leveling, loot drops and skill progressions comes as a result of PvP engagements in one way or another, whether that be by fighting other players, capturing objectives, and/or crafting objects to help in PvP.
Characters are further individualized through both the races listed in the section above and by a class system. These following classes will be in the game:
- Healer
- Tank
- DPS
- Hybrid
- Crafter
Building
Players will also be able to build structures in the game world. Structures are intended to be 'dynamic, changeable, and creative', and are built from cells or groups of cells, allowing for as much customization as possible.
Once a player has designed a structure they can save the design as a 'blueprint'. Blueprints can then be traded with other players, or even rented out.
The building system is intended to be as large-scale as the combat found in the game, if not more so. Players build their own entire realms, including keeps, forts and castles, and will then be challenged with defending them.
Economy
The economy in Camelot Unchained will be 'totally player-driven'. There will be no auction houses for player-created items, but crafters can set up their own stores and either sell there or directly to players in a market setting.
