Killer Instinct was announced initially as a free to play title, which would allow for micro-transactions for additional characters. It was later announced that you would also be able to purchase different complete versions of the game, and that there would be a number of 'seasons', although reports were slightly confused.

The game launches with 1,000 Gamerscore.
Subsequent seasons will be released if the game sells well enough. These would feature additional characters and fighting stages.
Mad Katz Fighting Stick
A Killer Instinct-themed Mad Catz Branded Arcade FightStick TE2 will also be released alongside the game. It retails for $200.
