Monochroma is a side-scroller physics-based puzzle platform game developed by Nowhere Studios. Set in the 1950s, the game is set against an industrial backdrop in which a child caring for his little brother, solves puzzles to survive.
Gameplay is similar to that of LIMBO and focuses on the bond of two brothers. There is no dialog in the game and is only accompanied by a soundtrack, performed by the Psychedelic Folk Band, Gevende.
The Brothers
Although there are two brother, only one is playable and the other acts as a hindrance that must be considered when solving puzzles. Early in the game, the Younger Brother's leg is broken at the very early stage of the game, hence requiring his brother's help in being carried around. He fears the dark, and must be made to sit below a light when leaving him behind to
solve a puzzle. The Elder Brother is the primary protagonist of the game and he supports and carries his younger brother throughout the journey. The game consists primarily of solving puzzles for the duo to proceed further.
Puzzles
At many points, the elder brother cannot jump high enough to cross an obstacle with his brother on his back. This means he has to leave his brother behind and find a solution to cross the obstacle with his brother on his back. Unfortunately, leaving the brother too far behind or in the dark is strictly forbidden, adding even more constraints.
With the younger brother's weight, the elder brother also cannot run fast enough or jump far, requiring him to separate from him brother temporarily.
Various physical actions include simple activities such as pushing, pulling, sliding, jumping etc. The actions involve various environmental objects, making the game very blended with it's environment.

Theme
Monochroma features a dark noire theme in grayscale, except for rare occassions when red is used.
The environment of the game is a grim Industrial-Alchemic setting in the 1950s.
