Kinuyo Yamashita was born in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. She began playing the piano at age four and attended Osaka Electro-Communication University. Before graduation, a representative from Konami came to the University and gave her a test, which she passed. She was then invited to work for the company where she worked on Castlevania and Parodius, among others. In 1989, she left Konami and has since been a freelance composer. As an English speaker, she currently lives in New Jersey, United States.
