Koichi learned Classical Music Theory in the early 1950's at the University of Tokyowhere he graduated with all honors
Between 1958 and 1965 he was a director at Fuji Telecasting Co. where he did some commercial compositions. After that he became a Freelancer and did work for various Anime and Television Shows like Kagaku Ninja Tai Gatchaman, Cyborg 009, Space Runaway Ideon, Patlabor, Sea Prince and the Fire Child, and Densetsu-kyoshin ideon: Sesshoku-hen. He also did the Music for Godzilla vs. Biollante in 1989.
