The eighth generation of home consoles is just getting started, but combined sales for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U are expected to hit 200 million units by 2019, according to a report released by DFC Intelligence.
The 200 million figure is mainly due to the growth of sales for the PlayStation 4 over the PlayStation 3. The Wii U and Xbox One are expected to sell less than their predecessors.
Overall, the entire video game market is expected to reach $100 billion by 2019. This includes sales from consoles, handhelds, PCs, and smartphones.
Digital sales are expected to keep growing every year, while retail sales are expected to continue to decline. By 2019 digital sales are expected to make up 85 percent of revenue, while retail sales are expected to drop to just 15 percent of revenue.
