7th Gen vs 8th Gen - Aligned Sales Comparison - July 2015 Update

This first chart compares aligned home console sales between the 7th and 8th generations. That is the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii combined sales aligned, versus the combined aligned sales of the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U.

The 8th generation has struggled to keep up with the 7th generation and in July 2015 the gap only continued to grow. Poor Wii U sales compared to the Wii is the main reason the 8th gen is lagging behind. The gap grew by 740,751 units in July.

The 7th generation home consoles in their first 21 months sold 56.44 million units, while the 8th generation consoles have sold 45.00 million units. The 7th gen currently leads by a total of 11.44 million units.

8th Generation Total Combined Home Console Sales: 45,001,993
