While Kickstarter has given life to countless space simulators and Metroidvanias, the crowd-funding site has been lacking in the non-retro JRPG department. Joe Madureria and Airship Syndicate are hoping to change that with their JRPG Battle Chasers: Nightwar. The game will act as a continuation of Joe Madureria’s comic series, Battle Chasers (which has been on hiatus since 2001). Like the comic, the game follows Gully and her band of adventurers as they proceed into the Grey Line to uncover what lies behind that fog wall. Battle Chasers: Nightwar will also include 2D cut scenes for important moments throughout your adventure.

The game's overworld includes hidden dungeons, uncommon bosses, and of course random battle encounters. As for how it plays, the game has you using three characters per team in turn-based combat. There are no regular attacks in the game, instead you will use either your main mana pool (blue) or your secondary mana pool (red) to perform moves. Each character reacts differently depending on which pool is used, so knowing your character traits is key to success. An interesting thing to note is that each time you return to a dungeon after surviving it the dungeon can be randomized. Rooms, enemies, the layout, and more all will be different each time you enter. Finally, thanks to Nordic Games, those who back the game on Kickstarter will get a Kickstarter exclusive Darksiders sword....
