Super Mario Maker (WiiU) had a good launch in its home country, debuting at the top of the Japanese charts for the week ending September 13th, according to Media Create. The game sold a combined 138,242 units for the week.
Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Airou Village DX (3DS) is the only other new game in the top 20. It debuted in second with sales of 59,456 units.
Last week's top game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (PS4), fell two spots to third with sales of 42,788 units. Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (3DS) is down one spot to fourth with sales of 42,577 units. Yo-kai Watch Busters: Red Cat Team / White Dog Squad (3DS) is also down one spot to round out the top five with sales of 39,949 units.
The Nintendo 3DS was the top selling platform with sales of 27,829 units. Wii U sales doubled week-over-week to 20,891 off the back of Super Mario Maker. The PlayStation 4 sold 18,555 units, the PlayStation Vita sold 9,018 units, and the PlayStation 3 sold 2,628 units. The Xbox One sold just 207 units.
