The number of teens that own a next generation console is rapidly on the rise, according to a recent survey from investment bank and asset management firm Piper Jaffray, as reported by Investor's Business Daily.
Of the 9,400 teenagers surveyed, 7,500 of them play video games. 39 percent of teens own a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, up from 26 percent a year ago. 34 percent intend to purchase a console.
That means that at this point 73 percent of teens either own or intend to own a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, which is up from 67 percent last fall.
"We believe the combination of next-gen console uptake and a robust lineup of AAA titles will lead to sustainable software growth through second-half 2015 and into 2016," said Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Olson.
While the number of next generation console owners is expected to increase notably, retailers are expected to continue to struggle. 37 percent of teens plan on buying at least half of their games digitally, which is up from 19 percent in the spring of this year.
