Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella reportedly views the Xbox and gaming across all of Microsoft's platforms as highly important to the company. Nadella ,who appointed current Xbox boss Phil Spencer, is working closely with Spencer together to ensure that gaming is a big part of Microsoft's sales pitch.
"[Nadella] is fully on board with gaming," senior global product marketing manager for Xbox Live, Mike Lavin, told Business Insider.
Xbox Live is "the glue" for gaming across the Xbox consoles, Windows PCs and Windows Phones, he noted. The number of Xbox Live users grew by 28 percent to 39 million last quarter.
"Everything will be unified at some point," Xbox Group Product Manager, Peter Orullian, said about the Windows Store, Windows 10, Cortana - the Windows personal digital assistant which will be coming to the Xbox One in the near future - and Xbox. Orullian wouldn't go into details but did emphasise how important this concept of unification is to Microsoft and how the company has begun laying the groundwork for such a move.
