Halo 5: Guardians Smashes Franchise Record by Generating $400M in Worldwide Sales

Microsoft launched the biggest Xbox One exclusive to-date last week - Halo 5: Guardians - and the game has set a franchise record by generating more than $400 million in worldwide sales from software and hardware bundles, although exact unit shipments have not been announced.

The game set a record for the highest week one attach rate for a first party title on the Xbox One and it is the fastest selling Xbox One exclusive in history. It also set a new record by becoming the best-selling digital game ever on the Xbox Store in its opening week.

"The success of Halo 5: Guardians is a testament to the innovative work from the entire team at 343 Industries to bring this installment to Xbox One and the incredible community of fans who have come to love the story, characters and gameplay central to the franchise," said Xbox boss Phil Spencer.

"The game represents all the possibilities of Xbox One and has earned its place as the anchor title in the greatest holiday games line-up in Xbox history."

In the first week alone players have logged more than 21 million hours of total gameplay, including 12 million hours of play in campaign mode. More than 45 million REQ Packs have been acquired. The game also set a Guinness World Record for most watched video game launch broadcast.
