Nintendo has won a patent case in the California federal court. This is the second time Nintendo has beaten Technology Properties Limited LLC, Phoenix Digital Solutions LLC, and Patriot Scientific Corporation in court.
Nintendo regards the three companies as patent-licensing firms (i.e. they file patents without ever intending to use them for anything other than suing larger companies).
In July 2012, the plaintiffs sued Nintendo in the California federal court and at the International Trade Commission, claiming that Nintendo had infringed on their patents. In February 2014, the International Trade Commission ruled that Nintendo had not infringed on the patents, and now the California federal court has also ruled in Nintendo's favor.
"We are very pleased with this decision, which again confirmed that Nintendo’s products do not infringe," said Nintendo of America’s Director of Litigation and Compliance, Ajay Singh.
"It also confirms that Nintendo continues to develop unique and innovative products while respecting the intellectual property rights of others. Nintendo will defend its products and its innovations, even if it must do so multiple times in different places and over many years."
