Overwatch's game director Jeff Kaplan, in a developer update, has confirmed that all maps and heroes that end up being released post-launch for the game will be free.
"What's going to happen with Overwatch post launch in terms of additional heroes and maps," said Kaplan. "There's been some worry and concern about this. As you guys know we are really excited about the 21 heroes that are in the game. We feel like they are playing really well right now. They're fun and very unique characters. We are really proud of those characters."
"We have ideas for additional maps and heroes that we'd like to add to the game. We thought about this and we decided the best way to add them to the game is to patch them in as free content and not as DLC. So hopefully that alleviates some concerns that people have."
"Some of these heroes we have even hinted at."
Overwatch releases on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC in early 2016.
