The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley has revealed in a Reddit AMA that him stating live that Kojima's lawyers had prevented Hideo Kojima from attending the show was not a planned move, but ultimately he felt that people needed to know the truth behind why Kojima wasn't in attendance.
"It just broke my heart that he couldn't be with us - something had to be said," said Keighley. "I didn't tell anyone on the show team what I was going to say and it wasn't rehearsed."
