UK retail game sales in 2015 dropped six percent when compared to 2014, according to GfK Chart-Track. What makes the drop even more disappointing is that sales in 2015 were for 53 weeks, while in 2014 it was 52 weeks.
28 million games were sold at retail during the year. The increase in PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sales were not enough to offset the decline in sales of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Wii U sales also saw a small increase.
Revenue dropped by a smaller figure, due to the higher average price in game sales. Software revenue in 2015 reached £928 million. That is a 2.2 percent drop when compared to 2014.
Digital sales are not known, however, in recent years digital sales have been on the rise. It is possible digital sales offset the drop in retail sales.
Four games released in 2015 sold more than one million units. These are FIFA 16, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Fallout 4, and Star Wars Battlefront.
