Like many gamers, I've never really seen the Spaghetti Western theme pulled off in the video gaming world. A showcase in cinema history, yes, but a very rare occurrence in gaming.
Red Dead Redemption borrows its themes from Red Dead Revolver, released in 2004. It was by chance that Rockstar Games created this title - if it weren't for Capcom dropping the previous game, it is possible that the game, in its magnitude, would not exist. It was released in 2010 by Rockstar Games, and uses the RAGE engine previously used for "Grand Theft Auto: IV", "Midnight Club: LA", and other R* titles.
The game follows John Marston, a former outlaw who is forced to hunt down his past. He is required to hunt down his former friends, all fellow outlaws who are infamous in their own right. His freedom, his life, and his family are at stake.
His journey takes him across the Western Border States - the growing land of New Austin, the war-torn plains of Nuevo Paraiso, Mexico, and the affluent province of West Elizabeth await him. This journey does not begin well, but he will slowly begin to draw closer to accosting his past friends, putting to bed his past life and allowing him to live comfortably, in an honest, new life.
You're thinking one of two things - a) you're agreeing with the title of this review, or b) you're beginning to think I'm a fanboy. But this game deserves a five-star rating. A perfect mix of superb graphics, a variety of activities to undertake - whether you are clearing out gang hideouts or partaking in a spot of Five Finger Fillet - a good aiming system, which can be changed to suit you. But, of course, you have that killer Houser Brothers storyline. Those guys never fail to weave a brilliant tale. I believe some of you may have played this game right to the very end - from beginning to end, the odyssey of John Marston is gripping and entertaining.
I could certainly put this game on a pedestal. This is one of the best games I have ever played in my life. I have had the pleasure of beating the game 100% too. It took some work to milk it for Achievements, but I think it was worth it. Rockstar Games - I have unwavering in you for creating another masterpiece with the upcoming "Grand Theft Auto: V".
