Indie Kickstarter JRPG Project Phoenix has raised over $500,000 in its first week.
The game is being made by a dream team of developers, who have had experience with titles like Final Fantasy, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Diablo III, as well as films like The Wolverine and The Lord of the Rings. And that's just to name a few.
Project Phoenix's Kickstarter video questions whether JRPGs have really advanced all that much and promises to go back to the basics of what a game in the genre should be. They aimed to raise $100,000 on Kickstarter but, within their first week, got over five times that amount... and they've still got 22 days to go.
The game follows the story of the paladin Marcus Stern, the amnesiac angel Ruffles, an elven princess named Sylrianah and a lost mage named Zarum, all trying to find their way in a world that's at war.
The game is in pre-production and will be released for the PC, Mac and Linux. The team is also considering iOS, Android, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions if they get enough cash. Somehow, that doesn't seem like it'll be an issue.
Project Phoenix is planned for a 2015 release.
