It has been confirmed that Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry, co-founders of Criterion Games, have left the developer, which is now owned by Electronic Arts, in order to found a new development studio.
You may remember that a few months back EA downsized Criterion, who are best known for their work on the Burnout franchise but have been working on the Need for Speed franchise for the most part since 2008's Burnout Paradise. Criterion are currently working on an unannounced new project for next generation consoles under the leadership of EA's senior vice-president, Matt Webster, but the team is rumoured to be down to just 20 individuals. It's not a huge surprise, then, to find that Criterion's co-founders are leaving.
This follows yesterday's news that PopCap's CEO David Roberts is also leaving Electronic Arts.
