Comedian John Oliver, who is hosting Last Week Tonight on HBO, took a stab at Nintendo, which is currently undergoing scrutiny for its decision to exclude gay marriage in its simulator Tomodachi Life.
Tomodachi Life is a game which allows your avatar to participate in an overwhelming number of activities, including getting married. The catch is that marriage must be to the opposite sex.
Nintendo has subsequently apologized for the lack of same sex marriage and commented that the game was not intended to become a soap box for "social commentary." They said the production of the game was too far along to include marriage equality, but that future itinerations will include a same-sex relationship.
