Customers who purchase Destiny for previous gen consoles - the PS3 or Xbox 360 - will be able to upgrade to the current gen version for free, Bungie have announced.
The free upgrade will only apply to copies bought on either Xbox Live or PSN, as the licence is stored with your Gamertag/PSN account, so when you jump ship to the new generation of consoles the game can simply carry over. The digital versions of the game that will carry over include the Digital Base Game, The Digital Guardian Edition and the Expansion Pass.
Once upgraded, players will still be able to access their old PS3/Xbox 360 versions. In order to qualify for the upgrade, players must purchase Destiny before January 15th.
As a part of this upgrade, players will also be able to transfer their Guardians over to the upgraded version, meaning the hours of levelling up you do on the previous gen version of the game won't go to waste.
Destiny will be released worldwide on September 9th for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
