Maderas, like Hoggmeiser, was a former servant to King Krichevskoy in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. Previously banished from the castle for stealing the King's favorite snack, Black Pretzels (Dark Buns), he got revenge by stealing Etna's memories and manipulating her to poison Lharal, putting him to sleep for two years. At first an antagonist, challenging Laharl and Etna multiple times, he eventually swears loyalty to Etna and joins the party.
