On December 24, 2012, while working for the Edonian Liberation Army as a mercenary, Jake and his team are approached by a woman in a blue dress with "energy boosting" syringes. As the men take their injections in another room, Jake takes his alone.
The injection, which is actually the C-virus, causes Jake's commrades to mutate into J'avo and uncontrollably attack him. In the meantime, DSO agent Sherry Birkin makes her way through the building to find the unaffected Jake. Determining that he alone carries the antibodies to stop the virus from destroying the world, Sherry charges herself with protecting and taking him to her boss.
As Jake and Sherry make their way through Edonia they are pursued by the B.O.W. Ustanak and Neo-Unbrella. Upon reaching City Hall, the two run into BSAA soldiers Chris Redfield and Piers Nivans, who are trying to destroy the anti-aircraft guns preventing the planes from defeating the two B.O.W.s in the area. Greatful for the help, BSAA willingly offers to fly the two to China, where they are to meet up with Derek C. Simmons.
