James Gordon is the commissioner of the Gotham police department, co-created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. His first appearance was in the Detective Comics #27, which came out in May 1939. He is shown to have a working relationship with Batman, usually calling on him to help him with various crimes related to the supervillains in the city.
Gordon has appeared in almost every form of media, as well as many video games based on the DC Universe. These include the Batman: Arkham series, LEGO Batman: The Videogame, DC Universe Online, a cameo in Injustice: Gods Among Us, and numerous other titles.
