Batman was born as Bruce Wayne, to Dr. Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne, who were rich, charitable socialites in Gotham City. When Bruce was eight years old, he witnessed his parents being murdered by a mugger on their way home from a movie theater. This incident caused Bruce to swear to himself that he would help rid the city of all evil, especially that which has taken his parents' lives.
Bruce had started to train both his mind and body, in an effort to get himself up to snuff to go against the crime of Gotham City. He realizes that he will need more than just skills to take down the bad guys and when he sees a bat fly through the window, this causes him to go with the bat design for his costume.
