Kakuzu is a S-rank missing-nin from Takigakure and a member of Akatsuki in Naruto. As an elite ninja of Takigakure, Kakuzu undertook a mission to assassinate Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage. Failing, he returned to his village to be shunned by the stigma associated with the failure of his objective. In response, Kakuzu began to hate his village and escaped imprisonment and became a bounty hunter on the black market. He later joined Akatsuki, where he killed most of his partners, and eventually became partners with Hidan, whom he could not kill because of his immortality.
Kakuzu is greedy, often unwilling to involve himself in something with nothing to gain from it. He believes that money is the only dependable thing in the world and considers himself the "Treasurer of Akatsuki". Due to this, Hidan and Kakuzu have a strained relationship, as Hidan is greatly annoyed with Kakuzu's greed and occasional habit of doing or saying blasphemous things.
