NBA 2K is a basketball franchise created by Visual Concepts and was made when EA would not publish its sports franchises on the Dreamcast.
The series took a simulation approach as opposed to the arcade style prevalent in most basketball games of the era. It has become well known for it's life-like detail to both the players and arenas. After Sega discontinued support for the Dreamcast, the series moved on to become a multiplatform franchise under 2K Sports.
