Gameplay in Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour has majorly increased compared to the first installment, the ball mechanics have greatly increased and the place in which the ball lands is no longer pre-determined after the shot is played, the play can now add spin to the ball in mid air to change the direction in which the ball bounces.
Power and Accuracy
The game has taken a more realistic approach to the games graphics in this installment, the realism has increased graphically with the graphics looking great for it's time period. Alas there are a lot of powerups and hazards that keep it a non realistic, fun golf game. The power gauge has taken a big improbvement and power is more easily controlled than in Mario Golf. The accuracy has also dramatically increased, giving the player an indication of where the ball is going to land whereas before it was less known where it was going to land, you can also change the landing of your shot based on the screen you are on wehn you see it's destination which worked well.
New Game Modes
Training
In this mode you can select any hole, on any course and practice that hole as many 
times as you want as long as you reselect it, there is not much else to it other than getting a score or par or below or above par. You can also chose the weather condition to your preference.
Doubles
A 2v2 multiplayer or single player where just you or with 1-3 friends can team up or play with NPC's or four players with normal Match Play rules, each member takes alternate shots until the balls goes in the hole, and when all 18 holes are played, the team with the lowest score wins.
Face-Off
A 1-2 player game where you play 6 holes and the player with the lowest score wins, if both have the same it counts as a draw.
Coin shoot
A simple golf based mini game in which you get a pre set amount of balls and whoever hits the most coins hit after all balls have been hit wins
Birdie Challenge
The aim is to see how many birdies you can get in a row on the hole Congo Canopy
Near Pin Challenge
The aim is to see how close you can get the ball to the hole in one shot on the hole Congo Canopy, whoever gets closest wins, or if you get it in the hole.
