Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia is a role-playing game developed by Gust for the PlayStation 2. It is the first installment in the Ar Tonelico series and takes place in the first tower of Ar Ciel, the Tower of Eoria, in the former nation of El Elemia, with the Reyvateil Shurelia as its administrator.
The world of Sol Ciel was once a bountiful land before the Grathnode Inferia and the Reyvateil Rebellion. Now the surface of Sol Ciel is covered by a Sea of Death and the sky was sealed off by the Blastline. Those who survived these catastrophes cling to the Tower of Ar tonelico and the floating landmass of the Wings of Horus to survive. Meanwhile, in the Floating City Platina, Lyner Barsett and the Knights of Elemia try to stop the virus known as Mir from breaking out of its seal and destroying the whole tower.
