Weapons are a big part of any Ratchet and Clank game, and Tools of Destruction has its fair share of weapons. Tools of Destruction takes its structure from previous Ratchet games, where more weapons become available to buy as you progress through the story.
Every weapon is able to be upgraded as you use it, starting from V1 and up to V5 on the first playthrough. When you start a second playthrough (Challenge Mode), you are able to buy Omega versions of any weapon you got to V5 from a weapon kiosk, for a hefty price. Once you do (you start from V6), you can upgrade those versions to VX (10), at which point they will be maxed out.
In addition to upgrading your weapons by using them, there is another way you can upgrade your weapons in Tools of Destruction. That form of upgrading is with Raritanium, which can be acquired from treasure chests and bigger enemies. When you visit any weapon kiosk, you can see an option to upgrade weapons, which when chosen, will bring up a set of hexes that you can choose by spending Raritanium. There are many possible upgrades that can be chosen via this method, some of which are exclusive to that weapon. They are as follows:
- Weapon's power
- Increase in bolts dropped by enemy when killed with that weapon
- Increase in Raritanium by enemy when killed with that weapon
- Weapon's range
- Fire rate
- Increases max ammo
- Shots cover a wider area
- Charge time is increased
- Area of effect for that weapon is increased
- Smultaneous missile locks is increased
- Number of ricochets is increased
- Each weapon has a custom upgrade
Every weapon has a starting point, which is represented by the black hex in the diagrams on each weapon's page. Every time you purchase an upgrade, the hexes next to that one will become unlocked. There is a custom upgrade for each weapon (except the RYNO IV), which is shown as a question mark and has yellow lines connected to it. You must purchase each upgrade connected to the custom upgrade in order to gain access to it (i.e. there are two lines connected to the custom upgrade, so you must purchase both of those to get access to it).
