XCOM is an upcoming third-person tactical shooter video game currently in development by 2K Marin. It was originally designed as a reboot of the X-COM video game series originally created by MicroProse but may no longer be a reboot because of the recent success of XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Instead, the game is set to be a prequel to the XCOM franchise and will detail the beginning of the the organization.
The game is currently set to be released on August 20, 2013 by 2K Games for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the Americas after several delays and a rebranding from simply "XCOM" to "The Bureau: XCOM Declassified". It has also transitioned from a first person shooter to a third person tactical game. The player will be able to direct their AI team but not control them and, sticking to the franchise roots, if one of those team members dies, they will be permanently dead.
