Overview
In Hawken the player takes up the role of a battle mech pilot, controlling the mech through a first-person perspective. The developers have stated that they have taken a balanced approach to the pace and gameplay, combining the feel of action focused shooters with MechWarrior - a game more focused on RPG/Simulation style gameplay.
The speed of the mechs is slow and purposeful, with boosters added to them for quick bursts of speed. This is limited however by the amount of fuel the mechs have. Battles are intended to be short and intense, 10-15 seconds long at a time.

Items
Around the battlefield are special stations that can be used to purchase items, which in turn grant you special abilities, with different types of mechs able to carry different items.
Energy Units
The currency for purchasing items as well as key in certain game modes. Though not confirmed, it is expected that these will be found across the battlefield, as well as being earned by destroying other mechs.
Weapons
It is confirmed that there are primary and secondary weapon types and that neither will use ammo. Instead, weapons will overheat if used too much, rendering them unusable until they cooldown.
Primary weapomns are designed to be fired for longer periods of time but do lower damge, while secondary weapons do heavy damage but overheat quicker.
Health
The health of the mechs doesn't regenerate automatically. Instead, the mecha must enter a special heal mode, rendering them vulnerable and unable to move whilst they recover.
