Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity - Magnagates

The main attraction of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity is definitely the Magnagates. These open portals to various different areas including new dungeons as well.

By selecting the 'Open Magnagate' option, the game switches to camera mode and requires you to point the 3DS camera at anything in the real world that is spherical or round in shape. Once it makes a connection, the object will appear on the screen and start to oscillate. Pressing the required button while it is oscillating, opens up a dungeon. The dungeon it opens does not depend on the object scanned, but is randomised.

Once inside the dungeon, you can only control one of the five starter Pokemons that are:

  • Snivy
  • Oshawott
  • Tepig
  • Pikachu
  • Axew

The Pokemon you play with is chosen at random and so is the number of party members you have in that dungeon.

You cannot capture Pokémon found within these dungeons. However, all loot obtained in the dungeon is yours to keep which can be accessed within the game as well.

This is very useful since there are several items found in these dungeons that appear rarely in the main game.
