Elite: Dangerous is a space trading and combat simulation video game developed and published by Frontier Developments for Mac OS and Microsoft Windows in December, 2014.
Set around 50 years after the events of Frontier: First Encounters, the settled regions of the galaxy, run by the Federation and Independents, constantly skirmish to outmaneouver one another on their frontiers. Meanwhile, in the regions outside their influence, a vast majority of the galaxy, anarchy reigns supreme.

Our galaxy is an awe inspiring, beautiful, vast place; with billions of star systems, planets, moons and asteroid fields just waiting to be explored, and exploited. The triumvirate superpowers of the Empire, Federation and Independents dominate their core system volumes and constantly skirmish to out maneuver one another on their frontiers. Outside their influence, in the vast majority of the galaxy, anarchy reigns supreme and spectacular discoveries await the bold.
