Machines process materials into other materials, usually of higher value. The notable exception is the windmill, which actually lowers the value of the grain. Since the flour produced is typically further processed into higher value items, this is not a great concern.
While some machines directly convert one item into another, others combine multiple items into one more valuable item. In addition, many machines are capable of producing multiple end products depending on what is loaded into them.
