Warmachine: Tactics is a turn-based squad combat strategy game based on the Warmachine tabletop game. The player takes control of a squad of warrior, robots and a tactical arsenal of weapons and magic.
General
As we're talking about a squad turn-based strategy game, there is a lot of tactic involved. You must carefully manage your team's actions, tactical approach, offense and defense.
Warmachine: Tactics will offer two different modes of play, as it will have a single-player campaign, as well as a multiplayer option.
Single-Player Campaign
The single-player will be split up into individual campaigns, with each one focusing on a single novice Warcaster. The player will be able to choose how to develop their character's skills and learn how to develop tactics, adapting to the game.
Multiplayer
The multiplayer in the game will be online and offer both synchronous and asynchronous play, meaning you will be able to play against a live opponent or even play against someone in a "play-by-mail" mode, where each player can take their time with their turns.
In addition, there will be automatic matchmaking available, as well as ranked, casual and tournament play. The developers plan to support the game with new content, such as maps, units and even whole new factions.
Combat
Warcasters
Squad leaders are called warcasters - unique individuals with special combat skills and magical abilities. They take command of the battlefield units called warriors and make use of deadly warmachines called warjacks.
Warcasters rely their power on a regenerable pool of energy called focus. This is used to cast spells, empower armor and combat abilities.
Each of these mighty heroes can interact with their units and warjacks differently. As one can boost aggressive behavior in combat, another can focus on defensive tactics.
Warjacks
These living machines are led with mastery by a warcaster. Armed with a deadly arsenal of weapons, magic and combat abilities, they can make the difference between victory and defeat. Warjacks gain experience through combat and can bond with warcasters to create a unique personality and unlock new strategies and skills.
Warriors
The mass of a squad is represented by warriors. They can enroll in one of the many disciplines and roles. Also, these mighty killers posses a large gallery of abilities, weapons and tactical possibilities.
Leveling Up
As your warcasters, warjacks and warriors fight, they will be awarded experience used to unlock new strategies. Higher levels will allow you to do better combinations between your units in order for them to suit your perfect play-style.
World
The action takes place in a world called Immoren, one broken down to kingdoms, battlefields and special areas.

Factions
There are six factions in the game, each with its own story and unique units:
- Cygnar
- Cryx
- Mercenaries
- Khador
- Protectorate of Menoth
- Retribution of Scyrah
