War of the Vikings is a third-person action game developed by Fatshark and the second game in the War series, proceeded by War of the Roses. Set in the brutal and bloody Viking Age, players design a personalized warrior and sack England as a mighty Norseman – or defend it as a brave Saxon.
Game Modes
The game has two game modes that can be played by up to 64 players.
Arena - Players are thrown in a small map and have only one life. You can be resurrected by a teammate or executed by an enemy. The round ends when all players are killed.
Team Deathmatch - Players can be resurrected as many times as they want, but it will alter the score unless a friend helps you get up.

Characters
Players can customize their character profile in any way they want and choose armor style, shield painting or weapons.
Factions
Players can chose between playing as an invading Viking or as a Saxon who wants to protect his homeland.
Classes
When prompted to choose a class, players will have three options:
- Thane - Medium armor with a shield, sword and two small axes as throwing item.
- Huscarl - Heavy armor with a two-handed axe and trowing knives.
- Hirdman - Low armor, a bow for ranged combat and a small axe for close encounter.
Each faction displays special abilities called Perks. Players can use them to run faster for a few seconds, gain more experience or gold by killing enemies in order to buy items or to improve combat situations.
Combat
The combat of this game requires a certain amount of strategy and reflex.
Every action comes with a loss of stamina, which is displayed by a white bar at the bottom center of the screen, right on top of the health bar, and regenerates by itself slowly over time.

Defense
Thane class has the advantage of a shield, although shields can be broken by a heavy attack. The other two classes must use Defend or Parry by using the mouse in which direction they want to parry: left, right or move it forward for head protection. If a proper parry is made, the players next attack will take less time to perform.
Tackles
If an enemy is fleeing, players can chase them down and tackle them. After falling, the runner will be defenseless. Additionallym if an enemy is running and players hit them in the legs with a throwing item they will also fall down.
Attacks
Attacks are performed the same as defending; by pointing the way the player wants to attack. Every weapon has a special attack that takes time for the animation, but causes great damage to the enemy.
Healing
Players can heal themself by using bandages, but with a time penalty. It is recommended to find a safe place before beginning a patch up.
