Cities: Skylines Greenlit After SimCity's 'Stumble'

SimCity's 'stumble', as PC Gamer diplomatically puts it in an interview with Cities: Skylines' Mariina Hallikainen, helped get Cities: Skylines greenlit, Hallikainen has revealed.

Mariina Hallikainen, CEO of Skylines developer Colossal Order, told PC Gamer that the company was worried the project wouldn't get greenlit because of the predominance of the SimCity franchise. It was only after SimCity 2013 released, to widespread criticism, that publisher Paradox gave it the go-ahead:

"When they announced [SimCity 2013] I was pretty sure there was no way we would ever be able to convince Paradox that we should make this game. But, yeah, they gave us the green light after they saw what happened with SimCity... it must have helped a lot."
