The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, and Niantic Labs have formed a partnership to bring Pokémon Go to mobile platforms.
The trailer seen below is dedicated to former Nintendo president Satoru Iwata who passed away earlier this year and who worked closely in the development of the game:
The Pokémon Company's Tsunekazu Ishihara has said that the idea behind the game is to use smartphones to create an augmented reality world. The camera from your smartphone will make Pokémon appear in the real world and players will have explore outside to find Pokémon to catch.
A device worn on the wrist or clipped on clothes, called the Pokémon Go Plus, will let players know by the use of an LED light and vibration when a Pokémon is near, although it is not strictly required to play the game.
Pokémon Go has been in development for the last couple of years. Junichi Masuda, one of the original creators of Pokémon, is confirmed to be working on the game.
Pokémon Go will be released for iOS and Android devices in 2016.
