Activision Blizzard has revealed that the company's most recent earnings report is the last time that World of Warcraft subscriber numbers will be disclosed.
"There are other metrics that are better indicators of the overall Blizzard business performance," said the publisher.
This is, unfortunately, an increasing industry trend. Microsoft recently decided to move away from reporting firm Xbox One hardware shipments to merely announcing Xbox Live numbers, for example.
In Activision Blizzard's most recent earnings report, the number of World of WarCraft subscribers was at 5.5 million - a decline of 100,000 for the quarter and the continuation of a trend which saw the number of subscribers drop by 2.9 million earlier in the year. This decline no doubt explains the decision to move away from reporting subscriber numbers.
