Capcom Wants to Support Street Fighter V for At Least 5 Years

Capcom plans on supporting the base Street Fighter V for years to come, instead of releasing multiple updated versions of the game.

Street Fighter V launches with 16 characters and five more are planned to be released within the first year. However, this is still quite a low roster count compared to the 44 that Street Fighter IV ended up with, so there's plenty of potential for Capcom to add dozens of characters over the next few years.

"A lot of it will depend on once the game's out in the wild, and if the model we make comes to fruition and I can be proven right about it being the right choice," Street Fighter producer Yoshi Ono told Eurogamer when asked how long it would take for roster to reach 44.

"Simple maths suggests it'd take five years to get to the roster of Street Fighter 4, and we want to keep the game going for that amount of time. We want to support it as long as we can, we honestly will have to see - we don't know anymore than anyone else does how it's going to turn out next February, once we do this completely new way of doing things."
