Do my ears deceive me? Is that the sweet sound of Mega-level monsters I hear? It almost sounds like… Digimon, digital monsters, Digimon are the champions... Sorry, sorry! Wrong theme song. Where was I again?
According to a scan of Japanese magazine CoroCoro, Pokémon X & Y will feature "Mega" forms. It seems that only a few will have access to this next stage in evolution. So far, the only ones we know of are MegaBlaziken, MegaAbsol, MegaMawile, MegaKabuterimon, MegaMewtwo, MegaLucario, MegaAmpharos and MegaSeadramon - Okay, okay. I promise I'm done with the Digimon jokes now.
Apparently, making the Mega jump will change more about a Pokémon than its name appearance. For example, MegaAmpharos and MegaMawile gain secondary Dragon and Fairy typing respectively. Some Pokémon will even get entirely new Abilities, like MegaAbsol's Magic Bounce or MegaMewtwo's Insomnia.
Mega evolutions will apparently be introduced by a new character named Koruni, who's also a Gym Leader, which says to me that they'll introduce these new monsters via the time honoured Poké-tradition of making you fight them. An item called a "Mega Stone" has also been mentioned but we've no idea on what it does yet.
In addition to this, three new Pokemon have been unveiled, including the Electric/Fairy type Dedenne (デデンネ) and the rabbit-like Normal-type Horubii (ホルビー).
