Keiji Inafune, creator of Mega Man and producer of series such as Onimusha and Dead Rising, has launched a Kickstarter for a new game called Mighty No. 9, a side-scrolling action platformer with a style meant to harken back to Inafune's Mega Man roots.
Mighty No. 9 stars Beck, the "9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a mysterious computer virus that has caused mechanized creatures the world over to go berserk." It's up to Beck to defeat these eight robots and their minions, utilizing the power to steal and use their abilities against them.
Not only is the set-up and art design meant to harken back to classic Mega Man, but Inafune has also put together a team of veteran Mega Man and other Capcom designers, including the level designer for the original games, as well as the original soundtrack composer.
Inafune and developer Comcept are developing Mighty No. 9 exclusively for PC with an estimated release date of 2015, and have set a goal of $900,000, and are currently at about $60,000 at this time of writing.
