Back in June, original Duke Nukem creators 3D Realms filed a lawsuit against Gearbox Software over allegedly $2 million in unpaid royalties over 2011's Duke Nukem Forever. However, 3D Realms announced today that they were voluntarily and amicably withdrawing the lawsuit.
"After reviewing evidence regarding our business affairs, and without any money exchanging hands, we have satisfactorily resolved any and all differences that we perceived against Gearbox," stated co-founder Scott Miller. "In all sincerity, we regret the misunderstanding that instigated our lawsuit. Now that we better understand - and appreciate - the actual nature of our business matters, we have voluntarily withdrawn our claims against Gearbox, with genuine apologies to Randy [Pitchford} for any damage that our lawsuit may have caused to the relationship."
Usually these types of things end with a settlement and an exchange of mean glares, so it's pretty surprising to see 3D Realms drop the lawsuit so unceremoniously. I'm not quite sure what the nature of the "misunderstanding" was that prompted an entire lawsuit, but at least the legacy of Duke Nukem Forever concludes with a (somewhat) happy ending.
