Nintendo's Indie Chief Leaves After Nine Years with the Company

Nintendo of America's chief of indie games, Dan Adelman, has left the company after nine years with the firm.

The reasons for his departure, outlined over at Kotaku, make for interesting reading. In short, he left Nintendo due to their clamping down on his public statements, which would often be at odds with corporate policy.

And so, today, Adelman announced via Twitter that he had left Nintendo, stating that he was "Happy to announce I reached an arrangement w/ @NintendoAmerica whereby I can tweet again. Arrangement includes my not working there anymore."

Speaking to Kotaku, Adelman said that "people were kind of on pins and needles about anything untoward I might say" and revealed that Nintendo had even offered to hire a PR guy to Tweet in place of him:

"I had been strongly encouraged to stay off of Twitter - or at least say only things that were clearly safe - so after the region locking comment they just said I needed to stop completely. When people started complaining that I wasn't active on Twitter anymore, it was suggested that a PR person could just post in my name. I thought that was about the worst idea I'd ever heard, so I left it as is and let the silence speak for itself."
