Should Nintendo really go Mobile?

6th August, 0 replies

Nintendo, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS

This is a question that has been in existence since the dawn of time! Should the Big N switch over to mobile gaming.

Well the straight up answer is no, they should not.

Unbiased you say? False, the fact that they need to stay as hardware and stay away from mobile is right in front of our faces. Plenty of reasons out there so I'll name a few.

First and foremost, it would be morally wrong for them to do such a thing. Nintendo has been in the hardware industry since they started making games. They made memories for countless childhoods and continue to make amazing games today, be it first part games made by them or third party exclusives.

Second, it wouldn't help them at all. Let's look at two other companies that decided to go to mobile... Capcom and Square Enix. If you follow financial standings for game companies, then you know that these two companies thought mobile gaming would help them. Wrong... the two lost an insane amount of money, Capcom especially. The company lost so much that they are now willing to be bought out (which I personally hope Nintendo does). Square Enix, not so much though they still lost a lot.

Third: The Wii U is not a bad console at all. Contrary to popular belief among wannabe "gamers", the Wii U is a "bad" and "inferior" console because of its specs and inability to produce great graphics. Since when has gaming EVER relied on graphics? Never...

Finally: Nintendo surely has seen the negativity that the Wii U has gotten (regardless of the fact that it's amazing), so next gen should be better. Though Nintendo is focused on fun (which is what a game is solely meant for, not graphics), seeing the harsh impact the Wii U gave them means for a better future. Nintendo wouldn't do the same thing twice.

Let's throw one more in here...

Nintendo is a smart and enormous company. Even if they continued lose money, they could survive for quite some time. Look at the facts, currently, if they lost money from today, they could still operate for another 38 years. They can lose about 20 billion Yen ($257 million/£3.8 million) a year and survive to 2052.

The facts are right here, folks. Nintendo is a hardware and software company and needs to stay that way like they have since they went from cards to consoles.
