In its ninth year on the market the Xbox 360 continued to play host to a staggering amount of high quality game releases. With the spotlight shifting to the newer generation of consoles you could be forgiven for thinking the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are well behind the times.
But no, the Xbox 360 continued to be one of the best places to play AAA calibre games. Our nominees for best Xbox 360 Game of 2014 leans heavily on adventure fantasy fare, taking you to distant lands full of danger and excitement.
The Nominees Are:
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
Far Cry 4
Dark Souls II
And the Winner is…
Dark Souls II
Appealing to the inner masochist in gamers everywhere, the sequel to From Software’s beloved action RPG Dark Souls was every bit as engrossing and infuriatingly difficult as we hoped it would be. The massive world of Drangelic is both hauntingly beautiful and filled with an indescribable amount of hostile threats ready to kill you nearly every step of the way. Dark Souls II rewards your persistence in the face of constant peril with engaging combat and deep customization abilities.
The Souls series' unique approach to multiplayer has also been admirably expanded upon. You can invade the quests of other players, either offering assistance or becoming a nuisance, whichever your heart desires. When facing down one of the game’s epic bosses such as The Mirror Knight you’ll be astonished at some of the inventive uses of multiplayer the game makes possible. Dark Souls II is the type of game that tries men’s (and women’s) souls, and for that reason and more it is our pick for Best Xbox 360 Game of 2014.
