Sly ran into Dimitri, who was locked up in a Venice prison, eventually cutting a deal with him to escape while Sly kept Carmelita busy. In return, Dimitri would tell Murray that his friends were looking for him, allowing them to eventually get back together.
Later on in the game, the Cooper Gang run into Dimitri once again in Holland, where he is working as an announcer. Sly asked for help from Dimitri, requesting that he assist in locating the lineup for the ACES dogfight tournament, which will help in them knowing who they were fighting and allow them to sabotage them. Dimitri agreed, but asked for a favor which he cashed in later, bringing Sly to Blood Bath Bay.
In Blood Bath Bay, Dimitri tells the story of his grandfather, who used to dive for sunken pirate treasure until his equipment was stolen. Dimitri grew up on these stories and vowed to reclaim it. He helps Sly defeat Captain LeFwee, and essentially forces himself onto their team, becoming their underwater person.
