Disgaea is a video game series of tactical role-playing games developed by Nippon Ichi Software. Debuting in Japan on January 30, 2003, with Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, it became one of Nippon Ichi's most popular franchises and has branched off into both a manga and anime series.
The Disgaea series takes place in a fictional universe called the Netherworld and are known for their uncommon RPG elements, complex gameplay, extremely high maximum stats and level, and humorous fourth wall dialogue. The main protagonists generally include a cynical, power-hungry antihero forced to fight alongside heroic foils, desite their hatred for each other.
