Abilities can be learned by equipping Materia, which grants the characters the use of various kinds of magic. A majority of the abilities learned from Materia use Magic Points (MP), although some don't use any. These can be learned by everyone, although there are some abilities that are special called Limit Breaks, which are unique to each character and don't require Materia.
